Jhulan in Bengal
My Jhulan means garden soil, tuni bulbs, and a tiny kingdom of dreams built by two siblings. Monsoon meant Rath Yatra, monsoon meant Jhulan and Rakhi. Rath Yatra fairs and making Rakhi probably happen in few other states too in India. But the Jhulan, made by children in every Bengali home, probably incubated by those creative minds who are chef, nanny, teachers and what not for their kids. It was seven days of pure joy. The day before Jhulan was the day of actions, almost like a world war. That afternoon the excitement would take over completely. We would rush home from school, gulp down milk and bread in a hurry, and the chaos would begin. With our house-help and a big old spade, we two siblings would head to the open ground next to our home. The spots were already chosen. At that time of year, there would be a patch of soft grass blooming like a flower. it was a particular type of grass with long leaves and flower shape. https://amzn.in/d/cczFH05
